Ello fellow Nwn Fans.

I'll try to make this post as short as possible so bare with me
Before I go further let me post my system:

~Gateway Laptop (bought on HSN) *Blushes*
~Intel T2300 @ 1.66GHz
~Mobile Intel(R) GMA950 or 945 Express Chipset
~Can Run Civilization4, WOW, GuildWars, Galciv2, etc (Haven't tried Oblivion and probably won't. Don't have game)
~Only 6 months old

---STORY---
I searched the forums and my heart broke in two when I found out Nwn2 can't run on Intel cards or rather integrated.

Well I read a solution mentioned and tried it. Sadly it STILL didn't work. So I decided to eh...test some things out. This is the link to the solution I tried:

Click Here

Out of desperation I tried some other ways and FOUND A WAY to get pass that annoying "not compatible Direct3d device" message or whatever it is.

Now I'm going to post the solution on here and REPLACE the (8th step) because it did not work for me.

~~~PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW EACH STEP BELOW~~~
Link to download "3Danalyze": Click Here
--SOLUTION--
1. Go to the link posted above
2. Download The 3D Analyzer
3. Extract the files to any directory
4. Open 3DAnalyze.exe
5. Press the big SELECT button
6. Find your nwn2main.exe (I searched for this file and found it in the C Drive in program files. It looks like this: C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\nwn2main.exe)
7. Select it
-->8. Under Directx 8.1 and 9.0 options - > Hardware Limits (cap bits) Check off emulate HW TnL caps
9. Hit run
The solution suggested "emulate pixel shader caps" but did not work for me. HW TnL worked for me. It may be different to some, I have no idea.
I do not know if this works for ALL intel cards but I DO know it works for my GMA 950 or 945.
--GAME EXPERIENCE--
I was able to get into the game. You know watch the intro, create a character then I was in the game in a house. Now during the mini movie scene in the game where your "foster parent is talking" it looked like a slide show. (As a poster in the forums name "The Kiwi" has mentioned it would do). I went to Options and decreased some settings so I can play with some ease.
Here are the current settings I have:
~Runs better on the LOWEST resolution but I'm debating between that and the next one still.
~NO Shadows
~Low Texture resolutions
~Set the Texture Minification AND Magnification Filters on "Point"
I haven't touched the "Draw distance" one yet but I think I may do that.
There's also a setting called "Enable Light Sources from Party Members". It says it gives better performance when its disable but Im gonna leave that be for now.
As far as actual gameplay and fighting. I have yet to do so. But I will give feedback when I do.
At this point I'm alittle scared because I "KNOW" I'm gonna be sucked into this game. But if it crashs or something and I'm unable to play, I'm gonna be really depress lol.
I've been looking forward to this game and to find out you can't play it REALLY sucks.
But hopefully the solution above begs to differ.
I know we have some very knowledged Posters in here so if you know a way that will give more performance feel free to post.
ALSO, if there are any posters here who Have a INTEL Graphic card Lower then the Latest GMA 950 or 945, it would be great if you give this a try and see if this will work for you too.
Let us bring some hope into the hearts of those who are really desperate to play this game and has a crappy card lol.
Even though I'm forced to play at such a low end, I rather have the ability to play Nwn2 then not be able to.
Ok After messing with the settings some more it seems I'm able to play just fine at a resolution of 1280 by 768 and all settings at default.
It's not at perfect movement but its not very laggy either. At this point I think whatever it my be is just the game in general since I've already seen alot of threads about lag issues.
I've tried what you suggested and unfortunately it hasn't worked. I've tried several options yet I always get the message 'Could not copy C:/Program Files\Atari/Neverwinter Nights 2/3d - analyze\hook_3DA.dll to C:/Program Files\Atari/Neverwinter Nights 2/3d - analyze\hook_3DA.dll !'
I've tried playing around with different options, but I'm not sure still how to work this..
This is pure genius, I don't know how you did that, But what you said makes more then enough sense to me, Infact I did not have to read all of it.....I will utilize this information well, For my own uses to get NWN2 running of course. Altogether, You have done very well.
Alastair Cliff, don't give up. And Anyone else who hasn't gotten it yet. We're gonna get this. Just follow EACH step and you'll be fine.
click Start on your computer and go to search.
I typed in "nwn2main.exe" and the look location I started was "My Computer". Not the C drive.
And the results will have around more then 4.
The results I came up with in a few seconds are these:
~File NAME~~~~~~~~Location
1)nwn2main---- C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\Root
2)NWN2MAIN.EXE-0F9DDAB9.pf---- C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
3)NWN2MAIN.EXE-19657215.pf---- C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch
4)nwn2main---- C:\Program FIles\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2
The 4th result is the one I used. I tried the others and it did not work.
Im gonna go alittle more into baby steps so you guys can get this file. It's there
When You open the "3Danaylze" program this is what you do.
1) Hit that big Select button
2) Go to the "Local Disk(C:)"
3) Hit "Program Files" (Its right below the "My Music" one)
4) Go to "Atari" (Mine was in the first Column)
5) GO to "Neverwinter Nights"
6) ok then go to the file with an icon beside it called "nwn2main"
Its right below "NWN2Launcher" and above "nwn2main_andxp"
7)When you click on the "nwn2main" one, you'll be on the 3Danaylze program again
Now just follow what was mentioned in my first post. put a "Check" in the box next to "emulate HW TnL caps".
Its right under the Hardware Limits(cap bits) section.
Now I plan on doing something with computers as a career but as of this moment I am no expert at it just yet.
But I will tell you this, "Do at your own risk"
Also I DID NOT click the "save batch file" down below. Everytime I want to run Nwn2, I just go to the 3Danaylze program, hit SELECT, and the file is right there. You DON"T have to go through the whole thing.
It only takes a few seconds so don't be lazy and Save because anything can happen in the future and I am unsure.
Let me know the feedback Buddy.
Deinbeck, I wish I knew too but I don't have an Honest anwser on it.
All I know is that it WORKS. I Promise!! I tried most of the Pixel options given on the 3Danaylze program and it STILL FAILED.
What made me try "emulate HW TnL caps" was some random thread in the forums. Again I've seen the poster name "The Kiwi" pop up alot when it came to this Direct3D device issue in the forums, so MAYBE he knows.
I found out that it was just alittle laggy while I was in the House when you first start. But Once I hit OUTSIDE, It was like coming out of a Storm and into Heaven.
And at this point my guess is that the little extra lags are because of the game itself so when the patch comes maybe it'll be fixed.
With My settings at a mid to low settings my Game looks like the Original NWN except maybe alittle better.
But as far as spells go, I can tell it was very low looking.
And I've seen many threads in the Forums about the Graphics issue too so maybe its that. Again I have no idea lol.
Whether I have so sort of gift and don't know it or that I got lucky, I just don't know. But I am truly happy to be able to get into the game. I haven't played much yet so this is kind of like a "Test-as-you-go" type of thing.
Hey thanks for your persistance, SilverWingX, but for some reason I still get the message popping up after I hit run
'Could not copy C:/Program Files\Atari/Neverwinter Nights 2/3d - analyze\hook_3DA.dll to C:/Program Files\Atari/Neverwinter Nights 2/3d - analyze\hook_3DA.dll !'
I don't have a clue what that means. I haven't really played around with the other options yet, since I don't what to do something I didn't mean to. You said it works on 'Intel GMA 950 or 945 and "Maybe" lower', and I need to check my video/graphics card. Unfortunatly I can't find it, I keep going into system yet I can't find my card listed anywhere, unless its something really obsure and its staring me in the face. Any way I can actually be sure what my card is? That could be the reason for it not working, or perhaps I need to select a different setting?
Also, I updated and patched the game automatically before I even tried to play it, so not sure if that would have made any difference or been a problem.
Also, does the Nwn2 disk need to be the drive or not? Could that make a differece (I'm not sure of the nature of the 3Dananlyse thing)
Thaks for the help btw!
I'm determined to get this to work too, don't worry!
Ah so your not sure what card you have?
What kind of computer do you have and give us the age and is it a PC or Laptop?
You said you go into "Systems". Yea in there it should be listed on there. Under the "General" tag.
Look for any one of these words: Nvidia, Ati, or Intel.
If you don't see it go under the "Hardware" tab and Click "Device Manager".
Once in there, look for "Display adapters". Click on the (+) beside it and it'll bring down a list of cards.
See which ones you have.
My computer is a laptop, a MSI megabook s26 - not exactly a gaming computer I admit. I got it less than 2 months ago.
Right my card, apparantly I have two of the same, called
'Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express'
... I think. Thats why I wasn't too sure.
Under the general tab it was listed as a 'Genuine Intel(R) CPU'
I think its the top one, since it was under display adaptors.
Thanks.
Yea I have two also.
One is for the Default Monitor and the other is refered as "Plug and Play".
I can use either one though. You can try going to the INtel site and see if there's anything you need to download for it to be up to date.
Just wanted to say thank you for the fix. I have a Toshiba laptop with the 945GM chipset for work. Does it run perfectly smooth? No. Does it work well enough so that I can enjoy my game during downtime at work? Heck yeah! Thanks again to you and to everyone who's finding solutions to our problems.
It works on my Dell D620 with an intel 945gm. I just need to tweak it some more so that it runs smoother.
