I've asked some campaign questions on these boards and gotten very few answers. That's got me wondering if anyone is really working on large enough stories that they're breaking it up into a campaign or if they're keeping it small enough that it'll fit into one module.
So I just want to know if there's anyone out there making a campaign?
How big are you making your modules?
How many modules will you have?
How are you linking your modules together? World map? Area/door/other transitions? |

I was planning on sticking to one module, and linking areas by transitions, at least for this first mod. I'm not really sure what a campaign does over a big module.
And can one use the world map without it being a campaign? |

I think the campaign set up is basically a way of breaking down big modules (or what we called modules in nwn1). A campaign is one story line, but with the height mapping instead of tiles for outdoors, modules can get to be pretty big. Campaigns allow us to break the story down into smaller parts. That's my understanding.
I have no clue about the world map. I personally don't want to use it for a few reasons. One, I'd need to make a map for my world... not a good artist. Two, I like the travel system of nwn1. It makes worlds more compact and less real (size wise) but I like it. |

I cant even get my campaign to load properly. :\
I think I've set everything up properly, but when the campaign is "unpacking module" it freezes up the game.
*sigh* |

But when we upload a campaign, it's altogether, right? And when someone downloads it, they download the whole campaign, ie all the modules? |

It should be possible to upload the campaign folder and the first mod, then update with another mod and perhaps a revised campaign folder later so one could continue with a saved game. |

I'm pretty much proceeding like it's one module - except all of my scripts are campaign scripts and all of my speaking characters have campaign conversations (though I haven't done much of those yet). My biggest problem is figuring out how to connect the modules so I can move from one to the other. But I agree, there is much confusion on campaigns. |

I am trying to create a campaign (for a limited multiplayer game with friends), mainly because I'm assuming that when I edit one resource it will trickle to the whole campaign - scripts, blueprints, conversations, etc. Seems like a campaign is a necessity if you want to have size and expandability - one module just gets too fat too soon.
However, I know almost nothing about campaign vs. module, except that when I create campaign blueprints I tend to get two copies of that blueprint in my list (presumably one for the campaign and one for the module, which kind of defeats the whole purpose, but...). The World Builder's Guide is very helpful on the subject. It has a whole paragraph devoted to campaigns that says something like: "You can join your modules together into a campaign... Oh, and don't worry, don't be intimidated." _________________ Miserere Project Lead (Retired) Tales of the Pendragon (Defunct) |

As am I. Maybe there is someone brilliant who has gotten a campaign to work.... I'm glad someone started this thread 'cause I was starting to think it was "just me"... _________________ Lyonesse - a PW in development for NWN2 | Flash movie |

"So I just want to know if there's anyone out there making a campaign?"
I'm trying to. No promises.
"How big are you making your modules?"
Probably will avry. My first module that i;'m working on currently, hwoever, will consiste of a town, 2 other overland maps, town buildings, and a few dungeon like places.
"How many modules will you have?"
Haven't though that far ahead but 3-5 connected.
"How are you linking your modules together? World map? Area/door/other transitions?"
If I can figure out how the world map plugin works (haven't tried it yet); I'll be using the world map. If not, the normal NWNish style area transistions. _________________ ME > KOTOR |

Ahh, thought that was just me doing something fast and f'ing it up, but I get the same thing. I goto campaign and it freezes loading at like the first sliver. |

My campaign seems to be working. The only suggestion i can mkae is make sure your starting module has the same name both in the area proeprties as well as the campaign start box.
Chance are you got it right; but sometimes even the smallest detail can mix things up. I know from my experience. _________________ ME > KOTOR |

I am learning the toolset. I have not written a word for a campaign yet.
I was just able to get my NPC's talking with recorded voices. If any knows how to get lipsyncing working I will like to add that at sometime during development.
I am dissapointed that lipsyncing isn't in the instructions or the World Builder Guide.
Thanks to everyone helping in the forums. |
