The complete offline patching guide! (updated)
Before patching you need to update NWUpdate program (current version 1.08). The easiest way to do this is to download and install this update program: Click Here
Or, you may download next three files: http://nwn2patch.obsidianent.com/nwupdate.ne_ http://nwn2patch.obsidianent.com/nwn2stub.ex_ http://nwn2patch.obsidianent.com/patchw32.dl_ and drop these files into the game folder (C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\ by default).
Then open your Notepad, type the following: @ECHO Off del /f /q nwupdate.exe del /f /q Utils\nwn2stub.exe del /f /q patchw32.dll expand nwupdate.ne_ nwupdate.exe expand nwn2stub.ex_ Utils\nwn2stub.exe expand patchw32.dl_ patchw32.dll and save this into the game folder under the name '1.bat'.
Open the game folder with your explorer and double click on 1.bat file You are done.
Next you must download the patch file corresponding to your current game version. You may check your current game version by running nwupdate.exe in the game folder.
If you need to update your game to the latest version (1.05.910) you must download patch file corresponding to your current version: 1.00.788->1.05.910: Click Here 1.04.870->1.05.910: Click Here 1.05.909(Beta)->1.05.910(Final): Click Here
Drop the patch file to your game folder (DO NOT UNZIP IT!) then run nwupdate.exe and press the Update button. Wait patiently until update process finishes! This may take several minutes to complete.
In case you have some other game version: 1.01.807->1.03.840: Click Here 1.02.808->1.02.809: Click Here 1.02.809->1.03.840: Click Here 1.03.832(Beta)->1.02.809 (download and install patch): Click Here 1.03.835->1.03.840: Click Here 1.03.840->1.04.860: Click Here 1.04.854(Beta)->1.04.860: Click Here 1.04.860->1.04.870: Click Here
Drop the patch file to your game folder (DO NOT UNZIP IT!) then run nwupdate.exe and press the Update button. Wait patiently until update process finishes! This may take several minutes to complete. Then repeat this process with next patch file.
You are done!
If you need to update your game to specific (not latest) version you should use incremental patches: 1.00.788->1.01.807: Click Here Note! Rename the downloaded file nwn2_pc_english_from100_to101.zip to nwn2_pc_english_from100788_to101807.zip before putting into the game folder! 1.01.807->1.02.808: Click Here Note! Rename the downloaded file nwn2_pc_english_from101_to102.zip to nwn2_pc_english_from101807_to102808.zip before putting into the game folder! 1.02.808->1.02.809: Click Here 1.02.809->1.03.835: Click Here 1.03.835->1.03.840: Click Here 1.03.840->1.04.860: Click Here 1.04.860->1.04.870: Click Here
Disconnect from the Internet first then drop the patch file to your game folder (DO NOT UNZIP IT!) then run nwupdate.exe and press the Update button. Wait patiently until update process finishes! This may take several minutes to complete. If you need to install next incremental patch simply repeat the process with next patch file.
In case you need beta-patches: 1.02.809->1.03.832Beta: Click Here 1.03.840->1.04.854Beta: Click Here 1.04.870->1.05.909Beta: Click Here Just download and install. Simple, isn't it?

Please note! The Official Patch 1.05.910 (so called "pulled") is definitely not as bad as it seems! In any case this patch is official final released (just like 1.02.808 in the past). In case you have problems with starting toolset after installing new patch simply do the following: open your game folder in Windows Explorer, search for file named NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe.manifest Left clik on this file, press F2 then put the underscore "_" at the beginning of file name (rename NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe.manifest-> _NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe.manifest), then press Enter. Try starting your toolset... Gotcha! It works perfectly, you are done! Before installing next patch simply remove underscore at the beginning of file name _NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe.manifest (raname back _NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe.manifest-> NWN2ToolsetLauncher.exe.manifest).
Good luck to all! Edited By Tarnum1 on 04/15/07 11:35 |

Another thing that worked for me was to download proper offline patch, and then use official updater, with internet connection active.
It would then update official patcher to newest version by internet, and then use offilne zip file for game updates. _________________ Spell Fixes compilation for NWN2 Feat Selection Fixes for NWN2 |

Interesting enough, it not yet part of autoupdater. I have 910 and NWupdate didn't find new version (912).
Well, that's why I like offline updates. _________________ Spell Fixes compilation for NWN2 Feat Selection Fixes for NWN2Edited By rpgplayer1 on 04/17/07 08:17 |

Something doesn't seem right. Can anyone explain why going from the boxed version to 104860 is 116MB, but going from the boxed version to 105912 is only 87MB? |

Starcub Ask Rob McGinnis about it. I think the reason is game code optimization - new patch need less corrections to game modules than 1.04.860. In any case this is absolutely normal and latest patch is better than previous. Edited By Tarnum1 on 04/21/07 12:33 |

To Tarnum and to everyone who helped put this guide together: Thank you so much. My biggest issue with this game was the trouble I had to go through to patch it. I'd use the updater and wait for an hour just to see that the patch was corrupt or that one of my local files was corrupt. This makes it so much easier and removes the trouble of having to DL all over again. Thanks! |

Hello all, forgive my poor eyesight, when I sticked the topic (which I copied for TNT220's original effort,) I didn't realize that another part 2 had already started.
Here is my original post for the other sticked thread, which is now unsticked and in it's place, is this one.
Quote: Posted 04/19/07 09:38 (GMT) by dunniteowl Being a dialup user myself (where I live I cannot get DSL, Cable and Satellite's just too darn expensive for running at slightly more than the max of my 56k modem) I am keenly interested in anything that someone does that makes life a little easier for the majority of American users of the Internet -- yup, dialup connections are still the majority of Internet connections in the USA. So, it was with great interest I watched this thread's parent go the distance and hit the 10 page wall. I would have acted sooner, except the RL issues have served me a few curves and I have had to limit online activity. You can find the old thread by looking at the locked sticky topics down below. In the meantime, I invite and encourage TNT220 and all those helpful others who have provided useful information to those of use with slower connections to be able to patch our games without having to baby our dialup connections along for the day long download fest patches of this magnitude can be. Thanks to all of you who contributed! You are certainly favorites of mine as a player and a poster. Of course, as a moderator and Community Rep, I must maintain my objective neutrality. Rock on and Be Excellent to Each Other! regards, dunniteowl
Also, in deference, here is another poster who added to the other thread with some links:
Quote: Posted 04/23/07 15:26 (GMT) by warzog1 Can't get anything but dialup where I live, either. (All of the lines and equipment to my area are pre-internet, and desperately awaiting upgrade.) For some strange reason, I've never gotten the update program to update online, so I'm forced to dowload patches, and then update. I keep a link to Click HereThey have every patch, in every language, and it makes getting any I might miss, easier to find. I also keep a link to Click HereWhich I use to download the latest updater program. The updater will update on my dialup just fine, but if I need to, I can update faster if it's already on my computer. I usually download the updater first, and then dowload the patch while I'm asleep. (No need to tie up the computer when I could be using it.) I normally uninstall, and do a reinstall, with every new patch. Then I run the updater's update.exe program. Then I COPY the patch's zip file into the NWN2 installation root directory. Start the game, select update, it notices that I'm NOT online, and then begins patching. When I was using v1.03, I had 3 patch.zip files, and the above method would load them sequentially, without any problems. (I like fiddling around with the game's files, and occassionally I really mess things up, so I like to keep a copy of the patches and updater around for emergencies.) (Especially since they take forever, 8.3 hours for the English v1.00.788 to v1.05.912 patch, to download with my dialup connection.)
Lastly, a great big "thanks" goes out to the Kiwi for informing me of the fact that this thread was already in existence since Selene locked the other for 10 page limit.
regards all, dunniteowl _________________ As the new guy in this group, I demand to be treated with the complete lack of respect I deserve in this position! |

I've been using the auto Update from the main NWN2 menu and whenever there's no new update, I seem to lose all sound within the game. Also, my computer seems to have to make two tries to get the game up and running. Is there any explanation for why my sound might go off? Speakers are working fine (the menu has music) and the settings in 'options' are unchanged. I think the problem is linked to the updater, but I don't know how to solve it. Any help? |

Thanks, but there doesn't seem to be anything there. I've tried making a new shortcut icon from the files folder and restarting my computer. I still have trouble initiating the startup sequence (it can take up to three tries now) but the sound has returned in game, which was the crucial part of my problem. I guess it seems to have resolved itself, although I'm still curious about why it happened. |
