Due to the fun we had with the mod-building contest, we are announcing a Fan Art contest for the non-builders.
There will be two categories that a person may enter:
First Category: Your favorite NWN2 Companion (Khelgar, Neeshka, etc.) or NPC (Lord Nasher, King of Shadows, etc.)
Second Category: Your favorite NWN2 creature or monster.
Rules for this one are pretty simple:
1. Entries to the Obsidian NWN2 Fan Art contest are to be two-dimensional, original pieces of artwork.
2. Files should be submitted in .JPG format, but we will also accept .GIF or .PNG formats as well. Files should be no larger than 25 MB (special arrangements will have to be made with NWVault administrators for a larger size).
3. Artwork submitted must be the original artwork of the artist. Plagiarism, or claiming another artist's work as your own, is not allowed.
4. Participants may submit two (2) pieces of artwork per category, for a total of four (4) submissions.
5. Artwork should be submitted on NWVault Click Here
6. Submissions must be received on or before July 31st, 2007 at Noon (12:00 PM) Pacific time (GMT -8 hours ).
7. By entering, you are making your artwork available for Obsidian's and public use with NWN2 at no cost.
Please note, as with the last contest, these rules may be modified to make the objectives of the contest clearer.

This is very awesome, I'm looking forward to both entering and see what others come up with.
One question though, as it is allowed to enter two pieces of artwork per subject, would it then be alright to instead say, have two companions on one piece and then only enter one?
I'd love to do a drawing of Neeshka and Khelgar interacting with each other.

Sure, that's fine.
I should also say that any artwork should be limited to a PG or PG-13 (ESRB Teen) rating, at most. Remember, this is a "family" game.
Please, no nudity or vulgar language in your artwork.

Aaand, the rules are not clear about legal issues : while submiting an entry, do we grant you with an authorization to use it for promotional purpose ?
So, what is the real objective for you ? Is it just, like the mod contest, a friendly contest to encourage people to make some cool creations, or have you got somewhere in mind that you could get a commercial profit/promotional use out of it ?  |

Actually, it would be reassuring if rule 7 was something like "By entering, you are making your artwork available for Obsidian's and public use within the framework of the contest at no cost."
But in case you wanted to use the artworks in a larger scope, you should then consider making that rule more clear. Have look at the Terms and Conditions of Fan Art Submissions to Blizzard Entertainment.

We will not be using your artwork for promotional purposes or for profit.
Though I am toying with the idea of the winner(s) artwork being added as a placeable piece of art in game. We would get the artist's permission for that, of course... and no guarantees that will happen.
