Apparently the last romance topic died out when people got to discussing political climes and other games...
So, I wanted to start a new romance topic.
First question, I guess, would be: Is the information I read that female character's romantic interest is a Barbarian and male character's romantic interest a Red Mage true? _________________ "Love is friendship set on fire." - Jeremy Taylor |

Supposedly it was in the tlk files. However, anything can happen..until the devs officially announce it, then it's not 100% fact. |

Having played enough of the OC now to have a better impression of the Romance in it, I'm not that concerned really - because I'll be ignoring it rather than trying hard to make the tiny "payoff" happen.
If the Romance does not undergo significantly beter development through conversation options (sorry devs, but the fact is the companion conversations are very stagnant) it is not something I will invest my time/effort into exploring.
As it is I really don't see a point to having them in there in the first place. To me in the OC they waved the brush at "romance" so they could say it was there, to make that true in a meaningful way would have required far more work than we see imo. |

I'm hoping that the male Romance won't be the Red Wizard, but, if it is, heck, I'll play along. Even if she is evil. Even Viconia was able to change for the better. _________________ "I like my women like I like my ice cream: white and cold." - the Exile to Brianna the Handmaiden after one too many shots of Juma Juice. Safiya the Red Wizard has been confirmed as the romance option for males. I can't see how it's possibly speculation anymore. Was it when I first brought up the subject when I found all this crap in the TLK files? Yes, but no longer.
Gann the wild man is the romance option for females, which I'm absolutely sure of, but which I'm not sure has been confirmed by the developers yet. Because of his title, I can only assume that his class is barbarian, but I can't confirm that.

Companions will now gain benefits in battle based on their closeness to you. Occasionally, you will also gain some benefits. I know that One of Many and Gann can increase your abilities (and One of Many actually decreases some as well), but I can't remember if any other companions do.

It seems like she'll be neutral, but I absolutely cannot confirm that. However, she certainly will develop over time more than any of the characters in the OC did. That being said, all of the companions in Mask of the Betrayer are quite dynamic with the single exception being One of Many. He's an evil, power-hungry spirit from start to finish.Edited By SushiSquid on 07/04/07 15:18 |

Eep, when I read that the female romance interest is Barbarian I have this horrible steriotypical Conan popping into my head. When it's just "wild man" I wonder if it isn't just that he's a ranger or a druid again?
Personally I was hoping that we could see Bishop again. I have put a lot of time into working that relationship and frankly, he talks more than any of the others about himself. I would prefer to be able to run into him in Rashemon, continuing his wandering, and pick up with an: "I told you I could do it." _________________ "I'm your Huckleberry..." ~Doc Holiday |

For some reason I can't put Gann out of my mind as a "wild mage" bard. Imagine Grobnar with a dash of Halaster Blackcloak. _________________ "A lot of gamers are pretty intelligent people, but absolutely clueless consumers." |

Yes, I definitely would like to know. And hell yes, I would like to see Bishop again. He was soo much more interesting than Casavir. Well, that could be because Casavir had like 4 different choices for dialog. But it would be cool to see him again and there would be a good chance anyway because you have 2 options to keep him alive..So, it is quite possible that he can show up. Besides, he would do anything to survive. |

Nevermind, I can't seem to find it. I had been sure one of the Obsidian members had made a post about it in some thread, but it was either deleted or I was just mistaken and it wasn't a developer post.
Regardless, I'd still be willing to bet my left one that it's true. |

I don't see why everyone hates evil for romance.
I mean, Ra's from Batman Begins was chaotic/neutral evil but I still wubbles him!
Quick question, does anyone know what One of Many's gender is? |

I have even worse image when they say 'Barbarian', that of a raping, pillaging, drunk brute with a bloodied axe, so I am almost regreting turning down Casavir. (Shivers.) _________________ Companions in IWD2 |

No, that'll be his fraternal twin brother. Your love interest will adhere to the "noble savage" archetype. Unfortunately, the brother is slated to to join the party for two sidequests and one of their tribal customs is that, until you bear a child for a warrior, you're an unclaimed woman unless a man is willing to fight for you in single combat.
If your influence with the noble barbarian is high enough he'll claim you and defend your exclusive relationship. If it's too low, then it's a tribal custom of share the piece to keep the peace. You know what they say, Melirinda, about a womans work never being done until she's been done...by the tribe? Well, bring soap because the brother ain't too keen on bathing very often either.

*squiks* Quit picking on poor Melirin!

I'm glad I'm not alone on the not wanting a hulking brute and not alone on liking the Bishop romance. (Actually, I'm wondering where the rest of the Bishop fanclub is? When the game was newer they were all over the boards.) _________________ My 1up page BioWare Club ZK Poster ZK Poster2 |
