No, it runs slower, but there are people who don't want to pay money to Microsoft for an OS that increasingly takes away their control of their PC.
I didn't catch it in Part 1, did anyone post the update for Wine 1.1.5? |

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but I am having trouble finding a thread on this info in the forums.. Is there any attempt or potential for a real linux version?
Making version 2 windows only kinda feels like a swift kick in the nads to me, being a linux user who bought the first version to support a company that I thought supported linux, and then became quite a fan of the series.

Wish Granted. Better?

Now folks, give us some more news and information on making NWN2 run under linux. I am interested in this very much and if this issue could be solved in some handy measure, I would seriously consider putting linux back on my gaming rig to see how well I can run, mod and play without using Gatesware.
Keep us informed.

Im currently running NWN2 (no motb) - 1.13 on Ubuntu 8.04 with Cedega 6.1
My Rig: MSI K9N SLI-F V.2 Mainboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 2.8ghz Brisbane (stock clock) 2gb DDR2 800 Dual Channel Kingston Value Ram (stock timings) 2x SATA2 7200rpm 120GB WD Caviar drives (non-raid) Realtek Sound AC8800( I think ) - Using Alsa EVGA Geforce 256MB 7600GT KO. (single card, stock GPU and Memory clock)
I have the cedega window size set to 1024x768 max and the game running in full screen mode.
I get between 15 and 45 fps depending on the area, about 30 fps average.
I'm using medium textures, vsync enabled, no shadows (crash bug with shadows), no bloom, no aa.
I'll post the rest of my settings later tonight, but that's what I can think of for now.
The toolset does not work due to .net missing, and I havent mucked with it much to try and get it to work.
The only bug I've seen so far is the picture that comes up on the save games is upside down
Im sure I'd get better peformance with a new video card, but that'll have to wait till christmas, my wife will kill me if I buy any more toys
I am also able to run GFFEditor as well though cedega.

Sounds good, those specs are very, very close to my system specs (except I have a much more rocking GPU/VidCard Nvidia 6800 I think -- not at my gaming rig... with 256MB DDR2 RAM.)
Unfortunately, without the toolset, I -- just -- can't justify it. Does anyone know if running WINE would do the trick for loading up .NET for the Toolset? If I can get the toolset to roll under Linux, I'd rather switch than fight.

EDIT: I found it the bug 9917 that it mentions and it's mark closed/fixed so I imagine that the test results would improve unless there is some other bug/regression.

I've been running NWN2 with MotB under Linux & it's works great. I'm using the most recent release of Cedega with Kubuntu 8.04. (My specs: Intel Duo 2 Core chip, 4G RAM, an Nvidia 9500GT with 1G Video RAM, and a Sound Blaster 5.1 live sound card). If you go the Linux route, definitely check out the forums at cedega.com for tips.
As for the speed, I've never run it on Windows XP, only on Vista, where it was virtually unplayable -- a horrible response time that disappeared when I switched to Linux. Thankfully there are now some options for Linux gaming.

here's a recent comment in the appdb:
Quote: Autoupdater by Rob on Sunday November 2nd 2008, 23:44 To get the autoupdate to work all you have to do is enter regedit and go to this key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Obsidian\NWN 2\Neverwinter\NWUpdate and change Internet Connect from 0 to 1 and Ping Timeout from 1000 to 3000
I haven't tried this yet, but it would be cool if it really does work. |

I put a post on the wine app DB, but maybe someone here has the answer. I've got Motb running on Kubuntu, but whenever I enter the shadow world in strategy mode I have problems. A solid black ceiling blocks my view until I zoom into the character. Is there a setting to prevent this? I already turned off bloom effects since that doesn't work right either. |
