So, I finished MoW. I had all these thoughts about a review, but right now it's late so... I just wanted to say that this was a truly amazing game, well worth waiting for. I don't remember encountering any problems at all, neither bugs nor Securom problems.
Playing this game reminded me of playing Baldur's Gate. From me, there's hardly any stronger recommandations.
If I should raise just a couple of objections:
The main plot was quite interesting. AND I do like a game with a lot of side quests - I did all of them, and they were well thought out and interesting, and quite "believeable" given the setting of Westgate. BUT: During the game I sort of forgot what my main task was. I didn't wear the mask - was that a mistake, maybe? I think the devs ought to have inserted more numerous "popups" or reminders of what this game was all about.
When the game came to a conclusion, I was pretty bewildered. I all went too fast, and I didn't remember at all who this Zymena was. This is often a problem, I think, that the conclusion of the game goes to fast and isn't sufficiently explained. Some kind of an epilogue would've be very helpful.
I played on hardcore rules with a Sun Elf Wizard, going the "evil" path but not resorting to vampirism. As always, I felt the battles were often too easy, like the final battle which I won easily.
I look forward to playing this module again, and the two paths makes for excellent replayability. One last objection, though: Why only 3 companions? To me, a Dnd party simply HAS to consist of 4 members covering all of the basic functions: Arcanist, rogue, healer and tank. With the 3 companions available, there was no other option for me than playing a wiz. I might use my Bard/Harper agent the next time, but I would hesitate to take my Rogue or Ranger or Fighter. Playing an entire game without anyone able to cast arcane spells isn't much fun to me.
But as I said - a great module, I sincerely hope we'll see more NWN2 modules from Ossian. |

Yes, I laso think itīs a great module, but from what build to play perspective, itīs a bit frsutrating that you have to choose a arcane spellcaster build or forget about getting arcane magic help. Why donīt they "fix" this and give us an arcane caster to get it into our group?. Even if it doesnīt come with a personal history. |

Agreed. I simply loved the NPCs in this game, their backgrounds were great and much believable. But I would freely accept a bland wizard whose job was simply to provide the fireworks |

It's been a while since I played so I forget the names, but I reckon that wizard NPC at that place where the house explodes in flame and where you can find merchants..you know, that wizard that says something like "Now, prepare to be impressed by yet another superb magical display!".
He would make a good wizard companion |

Oh yes! I wonder if not his name was Edwin. Or Edwina. Or at the very least he's Edwin's distant cousin.
Maybe Ossian planned for him as an NPC, but gave it up due to time constraints?
------------------
I sure hope future mod-builders are watching this. The same problem was in Harp&Chrysantemum, in my judgement the best NWN2-game ...ever! But the replayability is severly hampered since I feel I can only play it with one of my arcane casters. It provides a fantastic pally, a very interesting rogue and a funny and competent cleric. Why not an eccentric wizard as well? |
