On top of that, their remarks are coming from people who can't be bothered to play the damn game.
Oh yeah, those are great. And I think the most common complaint (and provided but rejected solution) runs along these lines: "I get attacked on the OM all the time. That's stupid!" "Do you have a character who can sneak?" "No, why should I?!" "So you can avoid random OM encounters." "Nah, don't want that. That's stupid." Cheers! My favorite is:
"Khelgar doesn't recognize me!" "You're not the knight captain." "But I imported the knight captain!" "It's a campaign that starts at 4th level." "But I imported the knight captain!" "..." |

My favorite is:
"Khelgar doesn't recognize me!" "You're not the knight captain." "But I imported the knight captain!" "It's a campaign that starts at 4th level." "But I imported the knight captain!" "..." Yep, that's another classic.
Along the same lines:
"Combat is so easy. That's dumb!" "Increase the difficulty." "I'm already playing at the hardest, but my MotB characters are still too strong." "You're not supposed to use those but to start with new characters." "Why?" "Because the campaign was designed for new characters. It even says so on the box." "So? I can play what I want!" "AAAARGH!!!"
And another common one:
"Why doesn't anyone recognize my yuan-ti character?" "Because you'd be pretty much dead if anyone did." "Why?" "Because yuan-ti are feared and hated. They're usually killed on sight. So they use deception and disguise." "But that's stupid. I want special conversation lines for yuan-ti." "Then how about 'Damn, I shouldn't have revealed myself... *death rattle*'"
Cheers! _________________ "And one more thing I want to be clear about - I know who I am. I am just a very thin layer of charming with some funny sprinkles, wrapped around a huge, creamy center of raging, arrogant a-hole." |

MAybe there are some players who find MotB too short with too few things unfinished and they just want to keep on playing with main char? u spend all those hours playing orginal campaign (+motb) and what u get? Lame outro in Motb (but story is great, really) U dont get to talk to khelgar and other companions as yourself (well only Ammon Jerro is there, but info we get from him is... pathetic). I dislike it and I want to tell ppl on the forum about that. Maybe 15 - 16 yrs old ppl dont feel that way, but WE, OLDER players who spent many yrs playing D&D, AD&D, WARHAMMER ed 1&2 without computer (yep - thats possible:P) - we want to continue story from OC and MotB. This is not only my opinion - many my friends find it irritating. I am not yelling: F**K SOZ, but I just feel... kind of sad. |

Speak for yourself. I started playing with AD&D (original edition), and I had no desire whatsoever to continue with my MotB characters. |

Yes, why must age determine if you want to play with one character or another? |

Agreeing with AlanC9. For me, the closer the characters get to being godlike the less interested I am in playing them.

I'm jumping on the no reason to continue the Knight Captain's story.
Really, unless you're planning on running around the plane fighting gods, there's just nothing to it.
And D&D has always been broken in epic levels.
By the way I'm pushing 40 and started with Basic. So the age thing has nothing to do with it. |

This, indeed. I am so grateful Obsidian crafted an adventure for real players, and did not bother with people who find actual gameplay (whether thinking up backstories for a new party or exploring a map) to be a waste of time.
Harumph!
Oh Gods, can it get any more condescending?
Give me a break. You want to throw the condescending label around? Try taking a look at the vast amount of posts from the SoZ haters that have polluted the forums for close to a year. Their words drip with condescension, arrogance, elitism, and vitriol. On top of that, their remarks are coming from people who can't be bothered to play the damn game. Harumph!
QFT. There are a large number of posts in which anti-SoZ posters vent their anger that SoZ wasn't an extension of MoTB and use very broad and insulting phrases designed, I guess, to scare people away from playing SoZ. And many times this is happening in threads that aren't in the SoZ forum or have little to do directly with SoZ. Free speech is a fine thing, but venting everywhere is just childish. Especially when the vast majority of the D&D based computer games are the way you wanted. It's like the spoiled kid who gets a dozen presents for his birthday but then cries because he didn't get the single present his sibling got. Pathetic really.

Hiya!
What I have a hard time understanding is why those who don't like SoZ keep complaining about it a year after its release. It's water under the bridge now. And besides, it's not only a new campaign we got, but also new races, classes, feats, etc. That's stuff you can use in all those campaigns you like better than SoZ, which in turn means that SoZ does improve your experience after all. Each and everyone in the "SoZ sucks" faction should think about that.
And the thing that really pisses me off beyond believe are those who keep trying to dissuade and discourage others from getting SoZ; they didn't like it, so no one else may like it. Seriously, that's abusing the right of free speech.

QFT altho I suspect most of the venting takes place just becuase it's allowed and becuase internet forums tend to have fairly large contingents of folks who subscribe to the "it's all about me" mind set where anything that is not exactly as they wish it to be is of course just stupid. _________________ Not all those who wander are lost.... |

9 out of 10 dwarves say this thread rocks. And the tenth dwarf was discovered to actually be a goblin.
Besides, we got developers posting over here.

I think your appreciation for SoZ clouds your interpretation of posts with which you disagree. I haven't seen anyone trying to discourage others from getting the game. It's their money after all. But to let people who care to read this forum beforehand know what and what not to expect? Maybe let the developers know as well if they can be bothered to read their forums? Yeah that's free speech alright, no abuse there. But I do not intend to turn this into yet another of those debates, so let's leave it there. I'm glad for all of you who have fun with SoZ. |

I was impressed with it the more I went through it, and I loved Volo... |

and I loved Volo...
Yes, I thought Volo and Sa'Sani were both strong central characters.
I loved the comments Volo gave upon reporting newly found locations. This really underscored the themes of exploration and discovery.
And the feats he rewarded were a nice bonus, too.
