I don't know how factually correct your statement is. Certainly dumbing down a product to appease the ignorant masses will increase sales. But no matter how much experience someone has, if they were wearing floaties they aren't a good swimmer and, in fact, don't honestly know what swimming is really like.
It is clear that what I consider difficult and realistic you consider boring, and all you care about is playing something that is as easy as possible, regardless of how unrealistic that may be. Enjoy that.
There is nothing difficult about wandering around a map and collecting XP and gold from encounters of negligible difficulty. If you really think that is either difficult or complicated, well, no comment.
And it is so realistic to see encounters walking around a map at distances of tens or hundreds of miles away, if you look at the map scale, travel between cities in minutes and find abandoned crates of valuables by the side of the road or in the middle of the wilderness. Sure, realism is all the overland map is all about.
And it is funny to hear talk about 'floaties' and other silly stuff from the person who's idea of character death is just a tad of inconvenience and maybe a price in gold, rather than something permanent. It is indeed possible to play for years with 'floaties' like raise dead and ressurection. Let the real players play games where death is death and the stakes actually matter. _________________ A.K.A. I think the better way to achieve that is to simply allow all party members to initiate conversations with NPCs. That is what I do in the OC Makeover and if they had written the OC without so many cutscenes it would work nicely. That would be just as bad. Not only does it again remove the concept of playing a single character but unless you have re-played the game or use a companion as a convo skill-bot it offers no meaningful control.
Much better to give the main PC the ability to see all the options every member of the party would have available and allowing him to let the appropriate party member speak the line and/or execute the skill test.
Quote: Hardly. The companions I didn't want in the first place didn't want to be part of my party at the end. In case you missed the memo, that was the point. The companions that were compatible with you ended up allies and friends and the ones opposed to how you handle things ended up enemies. It does not get much more 'decision and consequence' than that.
Quote: This is an example of how poor the decision making was in the OC, that the devs allowed their big bad finish to drive all other parts of the game. Yes, they should have made the entire game irrelevant to how things turn out like SoZ.
Quote: Especially since everyone agrees the OC ending left much to be desired. Looks like you missed one more memo, as the ending you refer to was the post final battle resolution and had nothing to do with the actual game. _________________ A.K.A. Shemar |

That only caters to your style of play and is even more unrealistic than the party conversation. Why would you know everything everyone in your party would say?

It does not get much more 'decision and consequence' than that. Not impressed since they forced those NPC's into my party in the first place. The choice should be the players as to who they travel with, not the devs.

Yes, they should have made the entire game irrelevant to how things turn out like SoZ. They should have had a final boss that had something more intelligent to communicate than "Hulk smash!"

No memoes sent or missed. The ending sucked including the final battle. The post final battle resolution only answered the question "how could things be any worse?"

That only caters to your style of play and is even more unrealistic than the party conversation. Why would you know everything everyone in your party would say? You mean the play style of role play one character use the skills of the whole team, which is the basis of pretty much every team based RPG to be published lately?
I would know who in my party has the best chance at diplomacy or in bluff or intimidation the same way I know who had the best hide and spot and listen. Much more 'realistic' (whatever that means, realistic is barely a factor for me in computer games, reality is bland, slow and boring) than speaking with 6, interchangeable at will, heads.
As for the rest, your opinion on the OC is known. However it is just your opinion and using phrases like "everyone agrees" makes you, guess what, once again, factually wrong. _________________ A.K.A. Shemar |

Of course you are the one person who thought the ending of the OC was fabulous. I stand corrected.

Except you don't get to decide for anybody but yourself. So, wrong again. Even when you stand corrected you are still wrong. _________________ A.K.A. Shemar |
