Whenever i switch between my party members they ignore what previous orders they have been given and run to the newly selected character. For instance when changing from my main character who is a fighter to my sorcerer to cast a spell, all my characters will stop their attack order and run to towards the sorcerer, making combat virtually impossible! Someone please help! |

I'm not sure anything can be done. I dont think i've experienced things as bad as you say. For example, if they are in combat and i switch character they dont suddenly disenage, but if not in combat then they do tend to forget follow orders. Still, i'm using TonyK's AI so maybe something to do with it.
However, as a caveat, if the character you switch to is a long distance away from the action, then yes, they will break off from combat because the AI urge will be to rejoin the "main" character, so maybe nothing wrong from this perspective. |

That's what your space bar is for. Pause the game, issue your commands, then go back to your main character. Your companions won't forget their orders if you do it that way. What's happening when you switch characters is you're giving them a new command, since they're hard-wired to follow a leader. Since you've selected a new leader, that new follow command takes precedence over the old one you gave them before.
Also be sure to turn off Defend Master in the Behaviour screen. That can cause more of that type of behaviour than usual. You'll also see your companions running back and forth on the battlefield. An Archer attacks the leader so the companion goes after the Archer. A little later some melee type attacks the leader and the companion will spin around and go after him. And back and forth, meanwhile taking AoO damage each time. |

Thanks for the quick replies! It happens even when the characters are standing almost right on top on one another. It is driving me crazy and preventing me from enjoying the game. I guess I will try this TonyK AI add-on, maybe it will help... I've tried every guard mode setting... |

Im using the space bar. I order my fighter to attack, pause and order my sorcerer to cast magic missile, unpause and the figther is running towards the sorcerer. OR I order my fighter to attack, pause order my sorcer to cast, reselect my fighter, unpause and my sorcer is doing nothing. |

I have the exact opposite problem. My characters start following whoever I choose as active character. I wish the follow command could be made so that if I switch characters, the characters either stop or keep following the character that gave them the 'follow me' command in the first place. I think I should post on TonyK's thread and see if a fix is possible.

And make sure you download and install TonyK's latest AI, as it has many improvements over the default one and most advice you will get will be from people using it. _________________ A.K.A. I know for a fact the old version of the AI kept trying to activate even in puppet mode and you had to manually disable every option to make puppet mode work right. I am not sure if that is still the case. _________________ A.K.A. Shemar |

Anyway, I haven't played in several months, but if I recall, TonyKs in puppet mode mostly cleared up this introduced problem.
My first runs through the oc and various modules never had this problem. It seemed to be a more recent occurrence. _________________ The most boring conversation is between two people who know what they're talking about.Edited By foil- on 11/02/09 16:09 |

If you aren’t going to be using puppet mode, issue an attack nearest to see if it changes the behavior. It is possible you are in peaceful follow mode which would cause non controlled party members to break off attacks and follow the currently controlled character. _________________ Companion and Monster AI |

I will try this AI program, I have the same problem, I use the hold command with the leader, switch to Neeshka to open a lock or disarm a trap, then all my party is running to attack a monster and they steap in the trap >_>
They don't stop to use worthless skills, like taunt or situations that they can be better only attacking, I made a post about this some minutes ago. |

I had kind of the same problem, try checking if the guard party leader or whatever this option is calles is deactivated. For me they all stopped following their orders and tried defending my Party leader, so switch it off andsee if it solves your problem. |
