Hi Folks
I need a hand here. I've currently boutght VWN 2 Gold which came with MOB I went and did what another posting Stated and installed NWN 2 than MoB.
Now first off it didn't install an Icon on my desktop and I don't remember getting an option asking me about this here.
But when I click on the Win icon in the lower left to bring up my programs and click on NWN2 It goes through Loads about 4 or 5 screens the hasbro, atari etc than it brings up a menu with 6 option as follows:
New Game Load Game Multi Player Options Credits Exit Game
And yes the above came up after the other screens which I thought was weird.
Now shouldn't there be one for updating the game(s)? Also shouldn't there have been an Icon added to the desktop for the game?
Should I un install both NWN 2 and MoB and re install them?
I am running my games on an I 7 machine with Windows 7 pro installed.
Thanks in advance for you help.

When you first click on your icon (it should be linked to nwn2launcher) it should bring up a splash screen. The options there should be:
Play Toolset DM Client Readme Update Exit
Are you not getting this screen? |

Did you look at Options? Update could very well be in there.

That's not weird at all, all games run through the various credit screens before you get to the actual game.

If you were running XP it probably would have, but both Vista and Windows 7 might work differently. I know there were a couple of games I've installed in Vista that didn't leave an icon, though they did with XP. |

Are you not getting this screen? No I am not. So what I did is did a full un install of the game and did a re-install and I got the following errors:
"String Error_DX_install was not found in String Table"
and
Error_DX_Install
Anbody know what these are referring to?
Now I didn't have a problem at all with installing NWN Diamond and updating it fully; Except for having to run the hot patch.
Thanks again.

Is there an icon in All Programs->Games in the Start Menu? While NWN2 wasn't programmed with Windows 7 in mind, I believe some older games have their start menu shortcuts automatically placed in the correct folder anyway. _________________ Matthew Rorie Marketing/PR Producer, Obsidian Entertainment |

The only Icon for which is in there is for NWN Diamond. Like I said at the end of the install I got the following Errors:
"String Error_DX_Install" was not found in string Table.
and
Error_DX_Install |

I think these mean that you don't have the older version of directX installed necessary to play the game. If you try installing Sandra diagnostic tool, I think it installs all directX versions. Thats what it looks like anyway. Or if that doesn't fly, try installing directX 9.0c directly from microsoft.
Your problem with update and no icon is win7 related. locate the NWN folder in the program files, find NWN2launcher.exe, and create a shortcut manually to it.
Also, when you install the game in Windows 7, you should right click on the install file on the cd and click "run as administrator". Not doing this has known to create problems in Vista with games. Win7 is similar to vista in many ways. _________________ The most boring conversation is between two people who know what they're talking about.Edited By foil- on 11/03/09 02:53 |

My weekend was kind of a blur as I did a clean install on Windows 7 Ultimate Saturday morning and spent the remainder of Saturday and Sunday installing much of my software, including NWN 2, MoTB, and SoZ.
One method I highly recommend for those installing with CD/DVD or Digital Download versions:
Important: Disable your antivirus and anti-malware applications during installation as some AV apps may cause issues with the game that may not be noticeable at first...
1. Install NWN 2; don't run the update when offered, simply exit after that. I tend to then run the game up to the first conversation, then exit the game (running the game before doing anything else is mandatory for Digital Download version). If NWN 2 is all you are installing, go to step 4.
2. Install MoTB; again, don't run the update when offered, simply exit out when the install is completed. If MoTB is the only expansion you are going to install, go to step 4. If you are also installing SoZ, go to step 3...
3. Install SoZ; again, don't run the update when offered, simply exit out when the install is completed. Go to step 4...
4. Load NWN 2, and select Update from the menu and allow NWNUpdate to run through completion.
Important Notes:
1. Missing File Issue:
I have noted that the install process for SoZ may deleted a file from your C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\Data folder (VO_X1.zip). I recommend you copy your VO_X1.zip file to your desktop so that you have a copy on hand in case it does get deleted so that you can replace it.
2. DirectX for Vista and Windows 7 Users:
Despite the suggestion that DX 10 is backward compatible to DX 9.0c, I recommend installing the Redistributable version of DX 9.0c from Microsoft . DX9.0c and DX 10 can both be installed on your computer.
3. .NET Frameworks:
Also from Microsoft's download site, if you do not have .NET Frameworks version 3.5, run the updates at Microsoft and install version 3.5
During my own install process on Windows 7, I did note that the NWN 2 shortcut was not added to the desktop, so I found the launcher in "C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\NWN2Launcher.exe" and created a shortcut to the desktop.
My Windows version is Windows 7 Ultimate (x86), which is the 32-bit version, so your mileage may vary, but the above methods have worked for me in both XP and Windows 7.Edited By Selene Moonsong on 11/05/09 02:16 |

I'll try these steps out in the Windows 7 64-bit version when I have a chance and see what happens. _________________ Matthew Rorie Marketing/PR Producer, Obsidian Entertainment |

Ok, I am running windows 7 ultimate, 64 bit and I have had no problems running NWN2. I noticed that it tossed the short cut for the game in the games folder instead of on the desktop, or start menu. The shortcut runs the nwn2main.exe so it takes you straight to the game instead of giving you the option to update.
In your programs(84) folder should be the Atari folder, and inside of that is the NWN2 folder. From there you can add a shortcut to the task bar, or desktop for the nwn2launcher which will give you the update, and dm options, or you can run the nwupdate to update the game. |

Hiya!

Like I said at the end of the install I got the following Errors:
"String Error_DX_Install" was not found in string Table.
and
Error_DX_Install I got those exact two error messages every single time I installed NWN2 + expansions, but it doesn't actually affect anything. The game runs 100% fine, no bugs, no problems. And I'm still using Vista.
Although I don't know what causes those error messages, I wouldn't worry about them as long as the game runs fine.
Cheers! _________________ "Hello, IT. Have you tried turning if off... You know what, I'm sick of saying that. WHAT DO YOU WANT!?" |

Pleas note that I edited the above information because I originally forgot to mention disabling anti-viru/anti-malware apps during the install and update processes. |

The game just makes the shortcut differently in Win 7, there's no problem with your install. As suggested, either manually run "NWN2Launcher.exe" or make a shortcut for it on the deskto. |

Okay, for Windows 7 users, the icon appears in the "Games" folder, which is revealed when you hover on "All Programs".
You can 'Pin' that shorcut to the taskbar for easy access or right-click on the icon to 'send' a shortcut to the desktop.
Personally, I have pinned the shortcuts to the NWN 2 Toolset, NWN 2, and NWN 2 Server to to the taskbar on my own system. |

Personally, I have pinned the shortcuts to the NWN 2 Toolset, NWN 2, and NWN 2 Server to to the taskbar on my own system. First off I would like to thank all for the help with tgetting NWN to work with Windows 7. After having to re-do the hd due to my A.V. program being incompatible with Win 7 I re-installed NWN 1 again and still could not get it to work
But I figured out why. I did what windosw web site said to do and turned on the Virtualization Technoloy feature in the bios for my MOBO. Seems NWN 1 didn't like that there at all.Once I turned it back off and rebooted the system I re -installed NWN 1 set it to run under XP sp two and it worked fine.
Now when I patched the program brining it to version 1.69 i got the following Error while running the Hot Fix that it said I needed to run. The Error was as follows:
Error Opening File for writing F:\Neverwinter Nights\NWN\NW upsdate.exe
Abort Retry Ignore
Now since I didn't want to Abort it I cliced on the REtry and the same error came up. So I clicked on Ignore.
Now not having played through the game since installing and pactching it was wondering if anyone else had ran into this and if it affected their game play?
Also besides my save games from my old drive are there any files I need to b4rintg over to allow me to continue playing my saved games?
Thanks again my friends.
