Tried so many times for the makers to try this but here's the kicker.
We all know that NWN was made with OpenGL but for some odd reason they never made a toolset for the Mac or Linux. Now when NWN2 was made. It was re-writen in .NET for the, get ready now, soul point that the new team didn't know OpenGL that well and .NET was something more easier to do since that's what they were and have been using. Now that another company that is suppose to be Mac friendly here looks at the coding. They have to try and reconvert all the .NET stuff back over into OpenGL along with any other new stuff that was not originally in the coding.
Now I understand why we're in the mess we're in. Had it stayed in OpenGL in the first place it owuld have been more possible to have a toolset. Now that everybody now a days can't seem to think past .NET and MS for the most part it will have to come to this. In order for Linux and Mac users to have a toolset the game will have to be made for that system directly in mind and not an after thought.
Even NWN was an after thought for the Mac and Linux OS. How .NET and OpenGL work work and call up routines I really don't think we'll see a toolset for NWN2. NWN might be possible. So if a toolset was made native for the Mac and proved to be stable and good it might and I say might be able to be implied for NWN2. Though again, NWN toolset for windows was made using .NET. So it doesn't really look good for non Win users here.
Should I have errored on any of the above info, do not hesitate to correct. My info is base on more hear say than truth. So maybe we should start a thread and petition for a toolset for Linux and Mac users? _________________ Solo is not a myth to evil. But a nightmare to the evil of the lands.

I'd just suggest one thing: Put the Windows toolset on the Mac disc so people who want to build using Bootcamp don't have to buy the game twice. That's the easiest and least problematic solution. Someone who's seriously into modding, module creation and the like will not hesitate to install Windows anyway, since almost every little helper application for such is Windows-based. And let me tell you from a builder's perspective: The NWN2 toolset is crashy and buggy enough, nobody would want the additional bugs and slowdowns an OS X port usually comes with. I'm already relieved when my Windows version opens an area without crashing. _________________ Mists over Middleforest |

I am attempting to get in contact with Atari since Obsidian told me they don't have the permission to give code away, I am going to see if I can't get a group of people together though a company I started up a few years back to work on developing the Mac version of the tools. |

@ casadechrisso. That is a logical idea. Wouldn't matter if such thoughts were thought about before the mass printing or for legit Mac NWN2 owners to be able to download the installer from their or some logical site.
@ Cyberpawz. I hope they will play ball and take such an idea seriously enough to work out something. I know they might want to protech their jobs and stuff but if another squad a fresh blood could lend a hand and make something that all would benifit. Well I just hope they try to say the least. _________________ Solo is not a myth to evil. But a nightmare to the evil of the lands.

Once a company gets to a certain size such as Atari they don't have to ask or listen to anyone... they push out products, and if it doesn't produce they push out another to pay the cost of the loss.
It doesn't amaze me at all really. Atari is known for this... hopefully you will be right though, because the Mac/Linux players don't deserve to be treated like 2nd rate players. |
