Very few things really get under my skin and this tops the list for me for as far back as I can remember:
The stupid ads they are putting over screenshots now. I don't mind if you put them there but you cannot (repeat CANNOT) remove them. There is no "x" in the corner or "close" button.
I have tried to look at this screenshot 4 times now and the ad has popped up blocking the screenshot:
http://nwvault.ign.com/fms/Image.php?id=145183
(Note, the fifth time I clicked on it, in order to copy/paste this link, it actually disappeared)
Like I said, I don't mind ads but these ads actually prevent you from viewing the picture that you selected to view. PREVENT!!!! _________________ Looking to join a PW? Come to this one stop shop for connection info, server rules and server description:

Dude,
I don't think that's an ad, per se. That has all the earmarkings of a mistake in setting up the page. I mean if I'm getting what you're getting.
All I see is a short little XML(?) script on a large white space in place of the page you should be seeing. It also keeps reporting an error on page just after it attempts to load the final image.
Of course the script looks like it is an ad to send you to the website of the content creator to donate, which sort of sucks, but other than that, I think what's preventing you from seeing the image is something screwy louie with the way the page was set up.
In all other respects I agree with you, though. Just to voice my support.

I'm not seeing an add here. Nor does it look like an error on the website. I get a screenshot of some sample XML that's created with chass' GUI creator.
Also; I'm not aware the vault has adds that pop up over the content of the page. I only get the occasional redirect, but that's it.Edited By Raygereio on 11/06/09 12:48 |

I sometimes get the little ad in the pics page like Banshe has said. And yes, I find it quite annoying myself. Even more so than the times I get an full screen ad page 2 or 3 times in a row when switching pages. It started a week or two ago.

If you followed the link provided by Banshe , it is a screenshot of XML code, not error code or whatever.
Banshe - maybe you should send an email to BTP and ask about it? _________________ Ferret Fact you never knew: Click HereEdited By _Knightmare_ on 11/06/09 12:54 |

No you misunderstand me, the error is on my browser indicator telling me that the page is done loading, but with errors.
The XML code thing I get, and I suspected that was the display. Sort of crappy, though, considering all it really does is show a little code snippet with the majority of it saying, donate, basically.
I respect all Content Creators, truly I do. I have even been known to pass the hat for some of them when trouble strikes. I don't think the screen shot was in good taste, however. Perhaps something a bit "meatier" in displaying some useful sample code or a snippet of part of the explanation of how that all ties in to doing things in NWN2 would be more apropos?
From Banshe's perspective, I guess he thought it was a perpetual advertisement, yeah? Sort of looks that way.
However, the error I referred to was my browser application informing me that the page had loaded, but with errors on it -- and this was consistent, which led me to believe that perhaps it was an improperly laid out web page issue as well.

Perhaps I did then, sorry. You know I'd never intentionally start an arguement with you right?
Anyway, I have seen the little ads in the corner of the pics screen. Very well could be page errors, never looked to see. |

Exactly. It was just that. This isn't the first time it has happened either.
I think in my hot-bloodedness, I may have been a little unclear.
I only posted that particular link to show everyone where I get these ads (which is on a screenshot page). The likelihood of the ad reappearing on that page for anyone here is not too high as the ad is placed randomly.
The vault has another ad method where you click on a link and are diverted to an ad page that says: "click here to continue to the Neverwinter Vault". This too is random much like these new ads.
This particular screenshot ads block the top left quarter of the picture and it doesn't go away nor is it removable. So there is one quarter of the picture that you just can't see.
If any of you are regularly checking the new content on the vault (the screenshots especially) in the last couple of weeks, I reckon you must have seen it.
@ DNO: I don't think it is a formatting error but I expect that I'll be seeing this again soon and I'll check then. _________________ Looking to join a PW? Come to this one stop shop for connection info, server rules and server description:

@Banshe; Ah yes, that explains it better. I guess the great random number generator in sky smiles down upon me, because I haven't seen that yet.
Question; is that something the Vault's managers handle, or is that IGN messing things up?
Edit; also it seems like the Vault's adds doesn't like Internet Explorer. If I view that page Banshe linked with IE8 I get what looks like a javascript error, like dunniteowl mentioned. If I view it in Firefox I get a flash add to the left of the screenshot. I guess Firefox' superiority over Iexplorer isn't always a good thing Edited By Raygereio on 11/06/09 20:32 |

Hmm. I never had one that I couldn't get rid of...
I have great familiarity with Vault ads. I do the Community News Updates and check a lot of the Vault Offerings comments and so each time you click a page in an active session, the odds go higher and higher for ad insertion inconvenience. Until you hit about a 1 in 3 rate or so.
And no, _Knightmare_ I didn't think you were being argumentative, like I said, you misunderstood me and that's actually my responsibility for not being clear. No worries.

If ads are interfering, don't get mad - get even. Use Firefox and try out some of the addons like "Adblock plus", "flashblock", and "NoScript".
I'm not saying to block out all ads on the Internet and not try to support the web site owners. (But sometimes you have little choice like those e***y ads that were spammed all over the web at one time - not very work-safe.) |

I figured you would be there often for your Community updates. But it only happens on the screenshot pages. _________________ Looking to join a PW? Come to this one stop shop for connection info, server rules and server description:

It could be IE8 messing with the ads on the left side. I still can't believe that any website would willingly do something so obnoxious.
As for Firefox, I'm really not a big fan. I used it extensively at my last job and found it less the optimal. _________________ Looking to join a PW? Come to this one stop shop for connection info, server rules and server description:

I've looked at that screenshot a number of times but never actually read it. I just looked and thought "Ok, cool, it produces XML code" and that was it. Not to derail the topic here but I have to agree with your statements above. I'm sure we would all appreciate a donation or three. |
